According to the Surgeon General, 61% of adults in the United States were overweight in 1999. In 2000, the economic cost of obesity was $117 billion. Obesity is associated with 300,000 deaths per year. Not only is it a risk factor for heart disease, but it also has been implicated with type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, arthritis, breathing problems, and reproductive complications. Both overweight and obesity are the result of an imbalance in caloric consumption (poor eating habits) and/or inadequate physical activity. A person may not appear to be overweight but may be at risk for disease because of a high percentage of body fat. Inversely, a person who is technically overweight according to body mass index scales (body builders) are not at risk due to a healthy percentage of body fat. The BOD POD reveals the percentage of weight that is fat mass and how much is lean mass. In addition, the BOD POD can help uncover the effectiveness of your workouts by tracking the changes in the distribution of muscle and fat over time. Cost per individual $35.00.
